Analysis: Franklin has a sparkling 1.34 ERA and has not allowed a hit in seven innings against Pittsburgh this year. That is an impressive accomplishment, although he has walked two Pirates. |

| Aug. 28 3:15 PM PT4:15 PM MT5:15 PM CT6:15 PM ET11:15 PM GMT7:15 AM 北京时间-The St. Louis Cardinals and Franklin, who leads the National League with 34 saves in his first full season as closer, are negotiating a two-year contract extension that could allow him to end his career with the team. Analysis: The 36-year-old Franklin made the All-Star team for the first time this season, and is 34 for 36 in save opportunities with a 2-1 record and 1.07 ERA. He had saves in 10 consecutive outings entering Friday night's game against the Washington Nationals. The right-hander is in the final season of a two-year extension he signed in July 2007 when he was the setup man for Jason Isringhausen, and the Cardinals have an option for 2010. |

| Jul. 20 11:25 AM PT12:25 PM MT1:25 PM CT2:25 PM ET7:25 PM GMT3:25 AM 北京时间-Franklin secured four outs for his 22nd save in 23 attempts this season as St. Louis beat Arizona 2-1 on Sunday. Analysis: It marked the fifth time he's gone more than one inning for a save, tied for second in the majors with Oakland's Andrew Bailey. San Francisco's Brian Wilson has seven. |

| May 8 11:44 AM PT12:44 PM MT1:44 PM CT2:44 PM ET7:44 PM GMT3:44 AM 北京时间-Franklin had a 1-2-3 finish for the second straight game in Thursday's 5-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Analysis: He's 9 for 9 in save opportunities after taking over when rookie Jason Motte struggled at the start of the year, and hasn't allowed a run in 13 1-3 innings. The 36-year-old has been one of the best closers in the game this year. "You've just got to keep him fresh, because when he's fresh he's got it all working," Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said. |

| Apr. 22 2:27 PM PT3:27 PM MT4:27 PM CT5:27 PM ET10:27 PM GMT6:27 AM 北京时间-Franklin, who had eight blown saves in 25 attempts last season, is perfect in three tries after pitching a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday night in the St. Louis Cardinals' 6-4 win over the New York Mets. Analysis: "If you go out there and go one, two three it's pretty easy," Franklin said. "It's when you start walking guys give up a couple of hits, it can snowball in a hurry." |
|
| Apr. 7 3:58 PM PT4:58 PM MT5:58 PM CT6:58 PM ET11:58 PM GMT7:58 AM 北京时间-Franklin will likely get the chance to close for the Cardinals against Pittsburgh on Tuesday. Analysis: Jason Motte botched his first chance as the St. Louis Cardinals' closer. Because he threw so many pitches, it was likely he'd have to wait at least a day before getting another shot at making a better impression. Motte won a three-man competition for the job in spring training. But he allowed four runs in the ninth inning of Pittsburgh's 6-4 opening-day victory Monday. Plus, he threw 29 pitches. Franklin had 17 saves last season. |
